KITCHEN For Mr & Mrs Childs, Ardleigh.

Our clients gave us a brief for their new kitchen with a wish list of the appliances and types of cupboards they   wanted:-

Kitchen furniture that was traditional but with a modern look. American style fridge / freezer Granite worktops Range cooker Dishwasher Breakfast table

Initial Budget not to exceed £25,000.00

Following a site survey we prepared a design that was limited by the existing room dimensions, a wall boiler and the fixed dimensions of the fridge and range cooker

The Berkeley door from the Callerton range of furniture was chosen, being a variation on the ‘Shaker ‘ style an oak door that would be painted in a blue finish and trimmed with natural oak ¼ turn pilasters and features, Giving a traditional style with a modern twist. To complement the doors Impala Grey granite was chosen for the worktops and a striking Red Silestone breakfast table top gave a fantastic central splash of colour.

After preparing preliminary designs for discussion, a final layout and specification was agreed with the client and a fully detailed set of plans and priced schedules of furniture & appliances prepared.

They also wanted no involvement in the installation of the kitchen, so we undertook the preparation of the room including all electrical, water & gas plumbing, plastering of the walls ready for decoration.

After being given the go ahead by our clients we ordered the furniture & appliances and scheduled our installation team ready. The work was started with the old kitchen being removed and the electrical and plumbing services relocated, the plasters then prepared and skimmed all the walls giving a new smooth finish to fit the furniture to. The cupboards where fitted and granite worktops templated. Granite tops are made from templates and usually take 10 working days to manufacture and be fitted. During this period we were able to finish laying the floor tiles and connecting the appliances, returning for just ½ a day to complete the installation once the granite was installed. Temporary laminate worktops were provided and where practicable appliances were left working.

The whole ordering and installation process was project managed to ensure everything was available when needed and the various tradesmen turned up on site as required. The contract was completed on time and well within the original budget.

BATHROOM

Mr & Mrs H visited our showroom to look at bathrooms, they have a 1980’s built house with family bathroom and en-suite showeroom. They were looking at updating both rooms but ideally to obtain a larger more comfortable shower in the ensuite. When originally built the soil pipe was located in the ensuite and the builder had installed a typical 750 x 750mm shower tray. After looking at the showroom displays and explaining the services that we offered a site visit was arranged.

Once on site it was obvious that the en-suite was very cramped and especially the location of the soil pipe and its associated boxing was a major restriction. A full survey of both rooms was undertaken and details of the type of fitments, storage cupboards, shower valve etc discussed with the client.

Returning to the showroom, detailed floor plans of the rooms were drawn and a couple of design options prepared. One involved relocating the soil pipe and moving a wall between the bathroom and en-suite to gain more floor space within the ensuite, the family bathroom was large enough to allow approx. 150mm to be taken for the ensuite.

The designs were presented to our clients and the pros & cons of each design explained, it was immediately evident that the option to enlarge the en-suite was the preferred design. The additional floor space and much larger shower enclosure would be a great improvement making the ensuite more practical to use.

After agreeing choices of furniture styles, colours, tiling etc we prepared the orders to various specialist suppliers and prepared a programme of the work so that we could maintain the use of at least one room through out the process.

The ensuite was started first, with the soil pipe and wall being taken down and relocated in their new position, the walls and ceiling plastered and the plumbing services relocated, new spot lights and vent fan were fitted in the ceiling and a shaver socket installed. After fitting the new cupboards and shower tray the walls and floor were tiled before finishing the installation of the towel rail and shower enclosure. Due to the house having a low pressure water system a booster pump was installed to give a power shower in both rooms.

Once the ensuite showeroom had been completed and the shower enclosure usable, work started on the family bathroom following a similar pattern of work.

Both rooms were completed within a 18 working day period causing minimal disruption to the house and family also they had the use of one room through out.
